This mama is not so adventurous in so many ways but I love to try going to a new place by myself by commuting especially if my purpose is to learn something new. That's why despite having a very busy schedule and my fear of being with a huge crowd (I am a semi-agoraphobic/introvert, by the way.) I always do my best to update my skills by attending short courses in all ways and means. As a mom, my priority is to spend time with my loved ones especially with my kids, but it is never an excuse for me to get right or be back on track when I feel lost or get confused as I journey through this colorful life called motherhood.
That's why right now, I am excited to listen to an awesome and purposeful mom, Mommy Gracie Miranda-Maulion of Tipid Mommy Blog. Tatapatin ko na kayo when it comes to money matters, I still need to learn more. The reason why I don't blog about money matters or finances that much is because I feel that I am not that credible to do it.
Right now, right on this moment, I am very excited. I know that this afternoon is going to be one of the best learning experience that I'll have for this year.
What is in store for us today? I will tell you as we move on...
Money MOMnagement... Hmmm... The topic makes me giddy. Really... I can't wait to learn more while feeling introverted. Mahiyain po talaga ako sa personal. The venue is filled with very young a.k.a. millennial moms and this 40-year-old mom feels so old. Hihihi.
1:19 PM
Workshop Proper
The workshop started at exactly 1:19 PM instead of 1:00 PM because we waited for other participants to arrive. Medyo masama kasi ang panahon at mahirap makahanap ng sasakyan o mabagal ang daloy ng trapiko.

The workshop was preceded by a prayer, icebreaker, and introduction of the speaker by events host and blogger, Miss Viviene Bigornia. Her energy was really contagious!
There were so many things that I learned and I took down notes because I didn't want to forget anything. Pero iba pa rin talaga kapag ikaw mismo ang pupunta para mag-attend kasi each family has a unique set-up and concerns when it comes to saving, budgeting, and investing.
Among the things that I picked-up from Mommy Gracie, I guess these would be the things that concern moms a lot.

COST-CUT and LIVE SIMPLER!
- Save all unexpected income like Christmas bonus, incentives, etc.
- Less Eat-Out
- Use discount coupons
- Invest on energy efficient appliances or inverter
- Instead of paying for the services that you can do by yourself, do it instead. Example: pediucre, manicure, hair treatment, etc.
- Grow your own food.
- It's not how much you make but how you save that matters.
- Double check all your current family expense that you can eliminate now. Talk about budget vampires that you have to cut down.
TIPS for STAY-AT-HOME MOMS
SAHMs can help their husbands to increase the family's income by doing the following:
1. Earn from work at home jobs.
2. Turn your hobby into an online business.
3. Be a reseller or an agent.
4. Answer online surveys.
5. Offer a service that you are good at.
Always remember...
Character and life skills are more important than academics. The best way for parents to teach money management to their kids is by being good examples.
Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime" - Confucius
It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings."- Ann Landers
Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf." - Proverbs 11:28
In my opinion...
Mamacademy.ph and Tipid Mommy's Money MOMnagement Workshop was very simple yet comprehensive. The topics and insights of the facilitator, Mommy Gracie, were easy to understand and highly relatable. The Php500 learning fee for a fun and knowledge-filled workshop was super sulit. Imagine, I was able to get so many tips on how to save, budget, and invest while having fun with other participants most especially with my seatmate, Erika Saguid. The workshop had so many hands-on activities to exercise what we learned and also, we had a chance to talk to our seatmate to exchange experiences and to get to know each other well. Our brains were stocked-up with new ideas while our tummies were filled-up with a scrumptious meal from Banh Mi Kitchen.
Ang sarap ng food and drink from Banh Mi Kitchen! Makakalimutan mo ang pangalan mo sa Lemongrass Chicken Sandwich nila! |
There was an unlimited coffee and chocolate drink from Mother Nurture. We got Financial Binder and freebies from Manulife Gradmaker and Merries Diapers. May pa-raffle pa si Manulife Gradmaker!

I would never regret taking a half-day break from being a mom last Saturday. Iba pa rin talaga ang nag-a-attend ka ng workshop kahit sabihin pa nila na pwede namang i-search sa Google 'yan! Hearing it from the speaker in person sharing her experiences made learning more realistic. I had a lot of realizations. I realized that our family was truly frugal. Lahat halos ng ways and means ng pagtitipid at pag-cut down ng expenses suggested by Mommy Gracie, ginagawa ng family namin except converting our appliances to the ones with inverter although like Mommy Gracie, we started doing it by using LED or energy efficient lights. Although Paps and I discuss budgeting together, I guess we have to do our very best to invest more because we feel na kulang pa. Breaking the "poverty mindset", nagustuhan ko 'yan. Instead of saying, "Anak, we can't buy that because it's too expensive and we can't afford it." dapat pala "Anak, it's too expensive but since you need it, let's save for it." By doing this, the kids will be motivated to save and invest to get what they want and they will bring the habit when they become adults. I also like saving for the Happy Fund. Kahit matagal, delayed gratification will be truly worth it because it will teach our kids to dream and realize that life is a balance of work and play at lahat kaya namang ma-achieve basta may pangarap ka at kaya itong matupad kung ito ay pinaghandaan at pinag-ipunan.
I also like the fact that if you tag along with your partners and kids, may available na play/waiting area para hindi sila mainip while waiting for you! Great!
For southern dwellers out there! Money MOMnagement has its 2nd leg on September 2018. You must attend, Mars, kasi what I am sharing right now are just snippets of the workshop! Stay tuned for more details. I tell you, sulit na sulit ang pag-attend! Maraming matututuhan.
